Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek was electrocuted while trying to check a malfunction in the machine room of the pool in the garden of his house in Keçiliköy Neighborhood. Health teams were dispatched to the scene upon the notification of his relatives.
PARTY MEMBERS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL Mayor Zeyrek was taken to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital by the health teams who provided the first intervention at the scene. Party members and relatives rushed to the hospital upon hearing that Zeyrek had been hospitalized. While there was a crowd in front of the hospital, it was reported that Zeyrek's treatment was ongoing. It was learned that Zeyrek's condition was serious.
STATEMENT ON ZEYREK'S HEALTH CONDITION In a statement made from Ferdi Zeyrek's social media platform X account, it was noted: "Our Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Architect Ferdi Zeyrek, has been seriously injured due to an electric shock as a result of an unfortunate accident that occurred at his home in the evening hours. The treatment of our Mayor is continuing in the intensive care unit at Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital, where he was taken after the first intervention at his home, under the supervision of our doctors. We kindly request that shares made outside of our official accounts are not taken into consideration."
CHP CHAIRMAN ÖZGÜR ÖZEL VISITED THE HOSPITAL CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited the hospital to get information about Zeyrek's health condition. Later, speaking to reporters, Özel stated that the incident occurred around 23:35 due to an electric leak in the water while intervening in a malfunction in the pool's motor. Özel explained that upon hearing a noise, Zeyrek's family turned off the electricity and called 112, saying: "The ambulance arrives within 5-6 minutes. And they start cardiac massage on his stopped heart. They perform cardiac massage there for minutes, and then he comes here. From the moment the ambulance arrived, proper cardiac massage and artificial respiration were performed, so we hope that oxygen reached his brain, except for the first 6-7 minutes of the 70 minutes of intervention. After 70 minutes, his pulse, which came back a few times, returned. His heart started beating. Right now, his heart is beating quite well, working without support. Our hope is that a miracle happens. In fact, the miracle happened with the heart starting to work after 70 minutes."
Özel emphasized that it would be determined later whether there was any damage to Mayor Zeyrek's brain functions, stating, "All the doctors, nurses, and the chief physician here are doing everything they can. There is nothing we can do here other than silently pray. We are all in a great shock. We lost him once, we hope to find him back. We are going through very difficult minutes." Özel asked those waiting in front of the hospital to be quiet, continuing: "Let's not show reactions that are not appropriate and raise our voices. This creates excitement. It disturbs Ferdi and other patients. My only request from you is to pray for our brother, our child, and to be quiet. We will provide information whenever there is a change in the situation. I believe that a great miracle happened; the heart does not work after 70 minutes. This is a miracle. A bigger one will happen, and we will reunite with our brother Ferdi. Mayor Ferdi's condition is getting better every passing minute. But this does not mean that the danger has passed. His condition is stable and improving, but it is too early to say, 'The danger has passed, Mayor Ferdi will be perfectly fine.' We need to be patient for this."
ÖZEL: CONDITION IS IMPROVING EVERY MINUTE CHP Chairman Özgür Özel provided new information about the condition of Manisa Metropolitan Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek, who is being treated at Celal Bayar University Hospital. Chairman Özel stated, "Mayor Ferdi's condition is improving every passing minute. However, this does not mean that the danger has passed. His condition is stable and improving, but it is early to say that the danger has passed and his health will be good. We need to be patient and pray for this," he said.
"CRITICAL CONDITION CONTINUES" Provincial Health Director Mehmet Fatih Zeren stated in a press conference at the hospital that a call was received at the 112 Command Control Center around 23:30, reporting that Zeyrek had been electrocuted. Zeren reported that the teams reached the scene within 8 minutes after the notification, stating, "The patient's consciousness was observed to be absent.
