Ferhat Göçer, known not only as a singer but also as a doctor, recounted the emotional process he experienced years ago when he left his profession as a surgeon. The famous artist stated that he could not hold back his tears while saying goodbye to the operating room and explained the reason behind his decision.
One of the beloved figures of Turkish music, Ferhat Göçer, made candid statements about a decision he made years ago that changed the direction of his life. The famous artist, who maintained both his medical career and his music career for many years, explained that the process of leaving surgery was not easy for him at all.
"I LEFT CRYING"
Ferhat Göçer, who bid farewell to surgery to focus on his music career, stated that he experienced great sadness during the period when he left his profession. Noting that medicine had an important place in his life, the artist said that he cried when he quit surgery.
Göçer's statements brought his years in the medical world back to the agenda, as well as his success on stage.
PATIENT SAFETY IS BEHIND HIS DECISION
The famous singer explained that patient safety was decisive in his decision to leave surgery. Stating that as his music work intensified, he evaluated the responsibilities brought by maintaining two professions at the same time, Göçer emphasized that a profession like medicine, which directly concerns human life, requires great attention and dedication.
The artist stated that despite his love for his profession, he chose to leave surgery by keeping his patients' safety at the forefront.
FROM MEDICINE TO MUSIC STAGES
After his medical education, Ferhat Göçer worked in the field of surgery and continued to be involved in music during the years he practiced medicine. Over time, as his music career intensified, he decided to focus on the stage rather than pursuing both professions together.
Years later, recounting that period again, the artist revealed that leaving surgery was not merely a career change for him and that he also went through an emotionally difficult process.
"I WANT TO BE AN ARTIST"
Ferhat Göçer, who was a guest on the program "Cemre and TBT", also told of the struggle he waged to realize his music dream after graduating from medical school. Stating that he did not pass the specialization exam on his first attempt, Göçer said that at that time he met with Yekta Kara, who was at the head of the State Opera and Ballet.
The famous singer said that he expressed that he wanted to be involved in art instead of practicing medicine, but learned that there was no suitable position for him at the institution. Thereupon, he said, he went to compulsory service and explained that he had psychological difficulties during that process.
HE DID NOT GIVE UP ON HIS MUSIC DREAM
Despite the disappointment he experienced, Göçer, who wanted to continue his passion for music, prepared for the specialization exam again. Stating that this time he worked with greater motivation, the artist won a general surgery residency in Istanbul.
Explaining that he specifically preferred a hospital close to the conservatory so as not to break away from his music education, Göçer said that in this way he was able to both continue his medical profession and remain involved in art.
"THE SMALLEST MISTAKE CAN COST A PATIENT'S LIFE"
Explaining that maintaining both professions together became increasingly difficult, Ferhat Göçer stated that in 2015 he came to the conclusion that he should not continue surgery.
Saying that he had devoted years to his profession and therefore had difficulty leaving it, the artist emphasized that he put patient safety above all else. Göçer said, "The smallest mistake can cost a patient's life," and stated that he made the decision to leave the profession the moment he saw any risk of inadequacy in himself.
