Regarding the incident that occurred in the 8th minute of the Alanyaspor-Beşiktaş match played in the Trendyol Süper Lig, three lawyers from Antalya filed a criminal complaint with the Alanya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the match referee and VAR referees, claiming that they acted contrary to their duties.
Following the match between Alanyaspor and Beşiktaş in the 2nd week of the Trendyol Süper Lig, which ended with the home team winning 1-0, 3 lawyers from Antalya filed a criminal complaint with the Alanya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the match's referee Adnan Deniz Kayatepe, the VAR referees, and other officials, alleging misconduct in office.
CONTROVERSIAL DECISIONS IN THE ALANYASPOR-BEŞİKTAŞ MATCH
Lawyer Abdullah İlkkahraman stated that in the 8th minute of the match, during a confrontation between Aliti and Trossard in an off-ball area, Aliti intervened with his hand to Trossard's facial area, and that this intervention was of a slapping nature. He noted that the VAR referees, who are responsible for detecting this situation contrary to the rules of football, failed to report it to the referee to take action, and the game was allowed to continue.
CRIMINAL COMPLAINT AGAINST REFEREES
İlkkahraman, stating that the referees' duty is to report inappropriate situations such as fouls and penalties during the match, to detect violations of regulations, and to impose sanctions, said that referees knowingly turning a blind eye to irregularities during the match constitutes a crime under Article 257 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK). İlkkahraman said, "The referee may not have clearly seen the position. However, it is impossible for the VAR referee not to see this position that requires sanction. It is clear that the VAR referees neglected their duties or abused their positions within the meaning of the TCK, especially since they failed to call the referee to review the position. The public is also suffering due to this situation. We have filed a complaint with the Alanya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding this. We believe that the incident will become clear after the investigation."
''NO INTERVENTION WAS MADE REGARDING THE INCIDENT''
Lawyer Hasan Nizam, stating that the referees' failure to intervene in the incident constitutes 'Misconduct in Office' under Article 257 of the TCK, said, "As seen in the Alanyaspor-Beşiktaş match, as it is currently on Turkey's agenda, we filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office both as sensitive citizens and as lawyers who know their job. Pursuant to Law No. 6222 on sports competitions, referees are public officials while officiating matches, and again, according to Article 257 of the Turkish Penal Code, while referees should identify the action they witness during duty and impose the necessary sanction, they acted contrary to their duty, so we have filed a criminal complaint against the referees under Article 257 of the TCK."
''CONTRARY TO THE LAWS OF FOOTBALL''
Lawyer Sude Budak, stating that with their application to the Alanya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, they requested an investigation to be launched against the match referee and other officials who served as VAR officials and whose identities would be determined within the scope of the investigation, said, "Regarding the position that occurred in the 8th minute of the match and was contrary to the laws of football, we exercised our right to notify under Article 158 of the CMK and filed a criminal complaint. Our aim here is not to portray any team or person negatively, but to ensure a legal investigation into whether those responsible by duty have fulfilled their responsibilities. We filed a criminal complaint against the referees on duty in the match."
