In the city of Dehua, located in the Fujian province of southeastern China, a fire broke out in a high-rise building for an undetermined reason. The rapidly growing flames and the thick black smoke that completely engulfed the building prevented citizens on the upper floors from descending. Those who escaped the fire inside the building took refuge on the roof and waited a long time to be rescued.

FLAMES ENGULFED THE BUILDING, THEY WAITED TO BE RESCUED ON THE ROOF

Upon the notification of nearby citizens, a large number of fire and emergency medical teams were dispatched to the area. A rapid rescue operation was organized for the residents trapped on the roof, waiting among the smoke. As a result of the timely planned efforts of the emergency response teams, the civilians trapped on the terrace were safely brought down.

NO CASUALTIES

Health personnel on standby at the scene provided first aid to those evacuated from the roof in ambulances. Treatment for the citizens transferred to nearby hospitals was initiated as a precaution against the possibility of being affected by the dense smoke. Chinese authorities reported that the quick reaction of the fire crews prevented major disasters in the incident where there were no casualties.

SMOKE RISING METERS HIGH RECORDED ON CAMERA

Massive black smoke clouds rising meters high from the high-rise building were visible from many points in the city. The images captured by the mobile phone cameras of nearby citizens clearly recorded moments when the flames engulfed the lower floors of the building and the people on the roof waited helplessly to be rescued. While cooling efforts continue in the area, the exact cause of the fire is being investigated.
