During the landing of Turkish Airlines' (THY) flight TK726, operating the Istanbul-Kathmandu route, a fire broke out in one of the wheels at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal. After the incident, emergency procedures were activated at the airport, and firefighting teams intervened quickly.

According to local media reports, the incident occurred on Monday morning around 06:45 local time after the aircraft made contact with the runway. It was reported that flames rose from one of the aircraft's wheels during the landing roll.

PASSENGERS EVACUATED VIA EMERGENCY EXITS

Firefighting teams stationed at the airport quickly intervened and extinguished the fire. It was stated that the situation was brought under control within a few minutes.

It was announced that all passengers on board were safely evacuated using emergency exit doors, and no injuries were reported among passengers or crew.

INITIAL INSPECTION: "LANDING GEAR" DETAIL

While preliminary assessments suggest the issue may be related to the landing gear or braking system, it was reported that the exact cause of the incident has not yet been clarified. A detailed technical inspection of the aircraft has been initiated, and airport operations were affected due to the emergency response.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM TURKISH AIRLINES

Turkish Airlines Communications Director Yahya Üstün, in his statement on the matter, noted that the Airbus A330 aircraft registered as TC-JNP made a normal landing on the runway.

Üstün reported that after smoke was observed in the landing gear on the taxiway, passenger evacuation was carried out by deploying slides as a precaution, following instructions from tower teams.

Stating that no injuries occurred during the evacuation, Üstün said an additional flight was planned for the return leg of the relevant service, and technical inspections of the aircraft have been initiated by authorized teams.

CAUSE OF SMOKE UNDER INVESTIGATION

Initial technical inspections suggested that the smoke was caused by a technical malfunction in a hydraulic pipe. It was learned that the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority and technical teams have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
