Five of the six students who were arrested for protesting the invitation of theologian-writer Nureddin Yıldız as a speaker at an event organized by Boğaziçi University have been released.

The event organized by Boğaziçi University Islamic Studies Club (BİSAK) was protested by 6 students, 5 of whom were released, against the invitation of theologian-writer Nureddin Yıldız as a speaker.

"WE ARE WAITING FOR THE RELEASE NEWS"

The decision was announced by the Parent Solidarity Network on their social media account, stating, "The release decision for our Boğaziçi children who were detained after the protest against Nurettin Yıldız has been announced. Our children are now free. We are waiting for the release news of our children in Silivri," they expressed.

NO STUDENTS REMAIN IN CUSTODY

Sinemis Zülâl, one of the students detained during the protests, was also released on May 16. With the 5 students released today, there are no students remaining in custody related to the case.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The theologian-writer Nureddin Yıldız was invited as a speaker to the event titled "Islamic Sciences: For Whom, How Much?" organized by Boğaziçi University Islamic Studies Club (BİSAK) on May 13. Some students who did not want Yıldız to speak at the university gathered at the North Campus to hold a protest demonstration. As a result of the scuffle between the police and students on campus, a total of 97 people were detained, and 15 were referred to the courthouse. 6 students were sent to prison on charges of 'resisting to prevent the performance of duty.'
