The death toll from floods caused by monsoon rains in India's northeastern Assam state has risen to 41.
The toll of the flood disaster caused by persistent monsoon rains in the northeastern Indian state of Assam is worsening. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in a statement, "So far, we have lost 41 citizens. Thousands of large and small livestock have been swept away by the floodwaters. Rainfall, which is 436 percent above normal, has caused unprecedented devastation in recent history."
900 THOUSAND PEOPLE AFFECTED
State Chief Minister Sarma reported that approximately 30,000 people are staying in 150 shelters established in the state. He announced that around 900,000 people have been affected by the floods.
It was stated that the Indian Air Force has been airdropping aid to areas with no land access.
At least 24 people had lost their lives in floods and landslides caused by monsoon rains in India's Jammu and Kashmir state and Nagaland state.
