As part of an investigation into a criminal organization in Istanbul, 31 suspects, including Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, were taken into custody and referred to the peace criminal court with a request for arrest. Following this development, hundreds of people gathered in front of the Beşiktaş Municipality building to protest the decision.
In the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the allegation that the criminal organization led by 'Aziz İhsan Aktaş' organized tenders by bribing mayors and senior officials of municipalities, the procedures of 40 suspects continue at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan after their health checks at Bayrampaşa State Hospital.
AKPOLAT AND 30 SUSPECTS REMANDED TO COURT WITH A REQUEST FOR ARREST
After completing the statements, the prosecutor's office sent Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat and 30 other suspects, including Aziz İhsan Aktaş, to the duty magistrate court with a request for arrest.
CHP CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION
Following the development, CHP Youth Branch President Cem Aydın made an urgent call for action on his social media account, urging all CHP organizations to gather in front of Beşiktaş Municipality to protest. Aydın stated in his social media post: "We stand up for democracy and the will of the people! We call on all our organizations to gather in solidarity in front of Beşiktaş Municipality."
HUNDREDS GATHERED IN FRONT OF THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING
Following the CHP's call, police teams set up barricades in front of the Beşiktaş Municipality building. Despite the barricades, hundreds of party members and citizens gathered in front of the municipal building. The crowd was seen chanting slogans of "Rights, law, justice."
