After the series of earthquakes in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir, seismologist Prof. Şener Üşümezsoy made a statement, saying, "Although aftershocks continue following the earthquake in Sındırgı, this is natural and does not indicate a new major earthquake. However, due to its geological structure, the Simav fault zone has the potential for a significant earthquake in the long term."

In Balıkesir, which was shaken by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in recent weeks, a series of earthquakes occurred. Recently, three frightening earthquakes of magnitudes 4.8, 4.3, and 4.2 occurred in succession in the region. The tremors were felt in surrounding provinces, especially in Istanbul.

The series of earthquakes has once again turned attention to the region. After the earthquakes, Seismologist Prof. Şener Üşümezsoy participated in a live broadcast on Habertürk and shared his initial assessment with the public.

"AFTERSHOCKS WILL CONTINUE"
Üşümezsoy explained that while small earthquakes lead to ruptures of a few kilometers, major earthquakes activate fault segments of dozens of kilometers, noting that approximately 20 km of a fault ruptured in the Sındırgı earthquake, which is why aftershocks continue.
