25 defendants, including former Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç, appeared before the judge on charges of 'providing financial support to a terrorist organization' for allegedly financing the DHKP/C armed terrorist organization. The court panel decided to sentence former Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç to 7 years and 6 months in prison.
As part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an indictment was prepared against suspects including former Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç, former Ataşehir Deputy Mayor Abdullah Der, former Şişli Deputy Mayor Emir Sarıgül, former Şişli Mayor Hayri İnönü, former Şişli Deputy Mayor Erdoğan Yıldız, former Maltepe Deputy Mayor Haydar Battal, former Ataşehir Deputy Mayor Kalender Özdemir, former Şişli Deputy Mayor Mehrali Seçme, and former Maltepe Deputy Mayor, who is also the current Manisa Şehzadeler Deputy Mayor Melih Morsümbül, on charges of 'providing financial support to a terrorist organization.'
THEY APPEARED BEFORE THE JUDGE
A prison sentence of up to 27 years and 6 months was requested for 8 suspects, while a sentence of up to 17 years and 6 months was requested for 17 suspects. The decision hearing of the case was held at the 13th Heavy Criminal Court in the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan.
7 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS PRISON SENTENCE FOR ŞÜKRÜ GENÇ
The court panel sentenced former Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç and Mahmut Serdar Kızılay to 7 years and 6 months in prison for 'financing a terrorist organization.'
Defendants Orhan Beğenmiş, Mehrali Seçme, Erdoğan Yıldız, and Abdurrahman Emin were sentenced to 1 year and 13 months for 'financing a terrorist organization'; Zafer Eskiköy, Sinan Çetiz, Necati Demirci, Muhittin Yetimler, Melih Morsünbül, Kaya Emir Dönmez, İsmail Yalnız, and Haydar Battal were sentenced to 6 years and 3 months for the same charge.
2 SUSPECTS RELEASED, 4 SUSPECTS ACQUITTED
Defendants İsmail Erdem and Kalender Özdemir were ordered to be released along with the verdict. Abdullah Der, Deniz Kutlu, Hatice Yazlık, and Haydar Özgül were acquitted.
