Former football player Ümit Karan, who was detained as part of a drug investigation and arrested for the crime of "manufacturing and trafficking of drugs or stimulants," tested positive for drugs. Drugs were detected in both Ümit Karan's blood and urine.
The drug investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has revealed the results of the drug test of former football player Ümit Karan, who was detained and arrested for the crime of "manufacturing and trafficking of drugs or stimulants."
ÜMİT KARAN'S TEST RESULT CAME BACK POSITIVE
According to Burak Doğan's report; After being detained, Ümit Karan was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institution for a drug test, where hair and blood samples were collected, and his test result came back positive. Cocaine was detected in both Ümit Karan's blood and urine.
HE WAS ARRESTED FOR THE CRIME OF MANUFACTURING AND TRAFFICKING
A detention order was issued for Ümit Karan, who appeared before the judge as part of the investigation for the crime of "manufacturing and trafficking of drugs or stimulants." Along with Ümit Karan, 13 other individuals who were detained in the investigation were also arrested and sent to prison.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Since October 8, 2025, many operations have been carried out in the drug investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office targeting celebrities. Many well-known figures, including musicians, managers, and businesspeople, provided statements and gave blood and hair samples for drug testing.
As part of the drug investigation in Istanbul, former football player Ümit Karan was also detained. The suspect Karan was taken into custody by police teams at Sabiha Gökçen Airport. After the procedures at the police station, all suspects were referred to the courthouse.
The suspects whose statements were taken at the prosecutor's office, including Ümit Karan, Timuçin Ünal, Gökmen Gürdeğir, Orhan Aydın, Emircan Şahin, Emre Yalçın, Gökhan Gümüş, Nuray İstek, Deniz Berk Cengiz, Murat Sönmez, Hakan Tunçbilek, Ahmet Şaşmaz, Melis Sabah, and Nazlıcan Taşkın, were referred to the peace criminal court with a request for arrest.
Fatih Gürdeğir, Ali Gürbüz, Emir Sağıroğlu, Ulaş Yağmur, Burak Doğan, Mert Ayaydın, Merve Duran, Bade Nogay, and Çağla Boz were sent to the peace criminal court with a request for judicial control.
The court decided to arrest 13 suspects, including Ümit Karan, while applying judicial control measures for 9 suspects. It was learned that the suspect Ümit Karan was arrested on charges of "selling, offering for sale, giving, transporting, transferring, storing, purchasing, accepting, possessing" drugs or stimulants without a license or in violation of the license within the country.
