Due to the heatwave affecting France, 3 nuclear reactors have been shut down while 8 reactors have been placed in low-power mode. As high temperatures heat river waters, the release of overheated water from reactors into rivers has been restricted under environmental measures.
In France, which is under the influence of a new heatwave, the operation of 3 nuclear reactors has been suspended, while 8 reactors have been put into low-power mode.
"TEMPERATURE" MEASURE FOR NUCLEAR REACTORS
According to reports in the local press citing a statement from the state-owned energy company EDF, environmental measures have been taken for nuclear reactors in France, where a red alert has been issued in 37 provinces due to high temperatures.
As part of environmental measures restricting the release of superheated water from reactors into already warming rivers due to high temperatures, operations have been temporarily suspended at 3 riverside reactors.
PUT INTO LOW-POWER MODE
Meanwhile, 8 reactors have been placed into low-power mode for environmental reasons.
The suspended nuclear reactors include the Golfech Unit 2 on the Garonne River, the Bugey Unit 3 on the Rhone River, and the Cooz Unit 2 on the Meuse River.
In France, which has a total of 57 nuclear reactors, 70% of electricity production is provided by these reactors.
