In his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, U.S. President Donald Trump, referencing World War II, criticized Denmark and Greenland, the ice-covered island it is associated with, saying, "If it weren't for us, you would all be speaking German."
U.S. President Donald Trump made striking statements during his speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland, which is closely followed by the global public.
Trump emphasized the U.S.'s position as a global power, saying, "We are a much bigger power than people think. I think they realized that two weeks ago in Venezuela."
"IF IT WEREN'T FOR US, YOU'D ALL BE SPEAKING GERMAN"
Referring to World War II, Trump criticized Denmark, stating, "During World War II, Denmark fell to Germany in just six hours of conflict and was completely unable to defend itself or Greenland. At that point, the U.S. had to take action. We felt the need to send our forces to hold Greenland. If it weren't for us, you'd all be speaking German," he said.
"BUT NOW HOW UNGRATEFUL THEY ARE..."
Touching on the post-war process, Trump continued, "After the war, we returned Greenland to Denmark. How foolish were we to do that, but we did, we returned it. But now how ungrateful they are..." His statements resonated widely in the hall and among the international public.
