Mathieu, who turned professional at Sochaux in the 2002-03 season, wore the jerseys of Toulouse, Valencia, and Barcelona. Continuing his career in his home country in Luynes, Mathieu retired from football in the 2023-24 season.

Emphasizing that he is in a legal process regarding a situation that is causing serious problems at the moment, Mathieu said, "If I am working as a sales assistant, there is a reason for it.
