The leader of the İYİ Party, Müsavat Dervişoğlu, made a press statement on the street where former Ülkü Ocakları Education and Culture Foundation President and Hacettepe University Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Ateş was killed in a gun attack. Dervişoğlu recalled the words of Ülkü Ocakları President Ahmet Yiğit Yıldırım directed at him, stating, "I am facing a threat. I am not here to respond to anyone. Because if I respond to every immorality, if I respond to every immoral person, then I would be giving value to immorality. My political counterparts are clear. Therefore, I consider responding to them, while staying within the limits of reciprocity, as a responsibility imposed on me by democracy," he said. "I HAVE BEEN THREATENED"Continuing his statement, Dervişoğlu said, "So why am I here? You know I have been faced with a threat. They may not know my address, so without leaving the need to search for me here and there, I am holding this press conference in the place they know best. Despite 16 hours passing, no action has been taken, no steps have been taken. Where is the President, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Ministers of Justice and Interior when a political party leader receives a threat? I invite them to perform their duties correctly. Are they afraid? Who are they afraid of? Are they afraid of their patrons? Are they afraid of the patrons of these murderers, these threats? I want these questions to be answered. I am exercising a constitutional right. Engaging in politics is a constitutional right. My friends who are members of our party are also exercising politics by benefiting from the same right. These threats are not ordinary threats," he expressed. "I AM A TARGET OF A THREAT"Dervişoğlu pointed out that the attacks against him began after MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call to PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in the Turkish Grand National Assembly on October 22, stating, "I have become a target of an attack, a threat due to my stance against Abdullah Öcalan at the point where it was demanded that he be given the right to speak at the podium in the Turkish Grand National Assembly as the leader of the İYİ Party. In other words, Abdullah Öcalan will come to the Turkish Grand National Assembly, will speak, will be promised the right to hope, and even the ground for his pardon will be prepared; but Müsavat Dervişoğlu will not be able to walk the streets of Ankara, is that so? You will take your air. Is this the Turkey Century they want to create? Where do they want to drag Turkey? From the moment we stepped onto the political stage, we have always called for a 'talking Turkey.' We have called for democracy at every opportunity," he stated. "PULL BACK MY PROTECTION POLICE"Dervişoğlu, stating that he is now protected by state officials, said, "I came here with the police officers assigned to me by the Ministry of Interior. If you cannot defend the rights of the citizens, if you cannot defend the law, if you have been rendered incapable of defending a party leader's right to engage in politics, then I have only one thing left to do; that is to live like a citizen. I am calling out to the Ministry of Interior from here. Immediately pull back the protection police assigned to me. I am not afraid of anyone. I defend the rights and law of this country. I defend the future of this nation. Therefore, I say I do not need the guards you sent me. The prayers of the mothers of martyrs are enough for me," he said.
