Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin has been appointed as the President of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey, as per the decision published in the Official Gazette.
Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin has been appointed as the President of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey (TİHEK). The decision was published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
FROM ANKARA GOVERNORSHIP TO TİHEK PRESIDENCY
According to the appointment decision numbered 2026/122, Vasip Şahin has been assigned to this position to complete the remaining term of the member whose term has expired or become vacant, in accordance with Article 10 of Law No. 6701 on the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey and relevant articles of Presidential Decree No. 3.
WHO IS VASİP ŞAHİN?
Born in Bayburt in 1964, Şahin completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Erzincan. He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 1985.
He served successively as District Governor of Küre and Pütürge, Deputy Governor of Muş, District Governor of Mudurnu and Kızılcahamam, Deputy Governor of Düzce, and Director General of Provincial Administration. He became Governor of Düzce by the Council of Ministers Decision dated May 11, 2010, and numbered 407. He was appointed as Governor of Malatya with the governors' decree published in the Official Gazette on August 3, 2012. He became Governor of Istanbul with the governors' decree of September 15, 2014. On October 26, 2018, he was appointed as Governor of Ankara by Presidential Decree.
Şahin, with this new assignment, will assume the presidency of TİHEK, which operates to protect and promote human rights and combat discrimination in Turkey.
