Greece is now also eyeing our tripe soup. Athens has taken action to have tripe, one of Turkey's most beloved soups, registered as UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage.
A new chapter has been added to the long-standing culinary culture competition between Turkey and Greece. Following baklava and döner, it has been claimed that the Athens administration has begun preparations to include tripe soup in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
GREECE NOW SETS ITS SIGHTS ON TRIPE SOUP
The desire of Greek authorities to register this delicacy as part of their traditional cuisine has resonated widely in the gastronomic circles of both countries. Experts emphasize that tripe soup, which is especially a staple of the night culture in Turkey and consumed for its healing properties, is a shared geographical heritage.
However, Turkish culinary representatives point out that the preparation methods and serving rituals of tripe soup have a much deeper-rooted place in Turkey. As everyone eagerly awaits the outcome of the UNESCO process, discussions about the "best tripe" have reignited on both shores.
