After Iran's attack on British bases in Southern Cyprus, an alert was issued in Europe. Greece announced that it would send 2 frigates and 2 fighter jets to Southern Cyprus.
It has been reported that Greece will send 2 frigates and 2 fighter jets to the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA).
GREECE HAS PRESSED THE BUTTON FOR SOUTH CYPRUS
Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias stated in a press release that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke on the phone with GCA Leader Nikos Christodoulides, and he has been in communication with GCA Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas for the last 2 days.
FRIGATES AND FIGHTER JETS ARE ON THEIR WAY
Dendias said, "After the unprovoked attacks on GCA territory, I promised Palma that Greece would make every possible contribution to the defense of GCA throughout the crisis."
In line with the decision of the Government's Foreign Policy and Defense Council (KYSEA), Dendias stated that a Greek "Belharra" class frigate named "Kimon" and another frigate equipped with the Kentavros drone defense system would be sent to GCA immediately, and that Greece would also send 2 F-16 fighter jets to protect GCA against potential threats.
Dendias also noted that he would be going to GCA tomorrow with the Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, Dimitris Hupis.
IRAN HAD ATTACKED BASES IN SOUTH CYPRUS
Explosions were heard at the Akrotiri Base in South Cyprus at night, and it was observed that some fighter jets stationed there took off.
GCA Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis also stated that a drone was used in the incident that occurred in the British sovereign base area in South Cyprus, and that limited damage occurred.
