During the 'Independence Day' parade organized by the state in Greece, Greek soldiers shouted "Cyprus is Greece" and then insulted Turkey. Turkey reacted strongly to the incident, demanding an official statement, while Greek authorities launched an investigation. In the completed investigation, it was decided to punish members of the Hellenic Navy who had chanted anti-Turkey slogans.
During a military parade held in Athens, a section of the Hellenic Navy Academy shouted offensive slogans, causing an uproar. Videos shared on social media showed the group chanting "Cyprus is Greek" and using profane expressions directed at Turkey.
STRONG RESPONSE FROM THE FOREIGN MINISTRY: WE EXPECT AN EXPLANATION
The Foreign Ministry sources quickly responded to this rudeness directed at Turkey. In a statement from the Foreign Ministry sources, it was noted that the slogans shouted by some members of the Hellenic Armed Forces during the parade were brazen, and it was stated that an explanation was requested.
The statement regarding the issue included the following remarks:
"The slogans shouted by some members of the Hellenic Armed Forces during the parade in Athens are brazen. This behavior, which aims to undermine Turkey-Greece relations, is unacceptable. An explanation has been requested from the Greek authorities regarding this matter."
MSB SOURCES: YOU WON'T SEE SUCH BEHAVIOR FROM THE TSK
Sources from the Ministry of National Defense (MSB) also stated, "You will never see such behavior from the TSK."
Sources indicated that regarding the incident for which the Foreign Ministry requested an explanation from Athens, "There are written and unwritten rules of military conduct. The first of the unwritten rules is that what is done in Greece should not be done. The Turkish Armed Forces are distinguished by their discipline, morality, and compassion. It is an army that stands out with its effective, deterrent, and respected characteristics. You will never see such behavior from the TSK, nor will you."
INVESTIGATION COMPLETED
Following Turkey's reaction, the Hellenic Armed Forces Command decided to initiate a general investigation into the incident. According to reports in the Greek press, the administrative investigation launched regarding the naval personnel, who are students and shouted anti-Turkey slogans during the parade, has been completed.
20 DAYS OF IMPRISONMENT
For some of the officials held responsible for the situation, a decision was made for a 20-day prison sentence, while it was decided that lighter penalties would be imposed on other individuals identified as being involved in the incident.
