The co-chair of the DEM Party, Tülay Hatimoğulları, reacted strongly to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's statement about "Stockholm syndrome," calling this comparison a "mental block." Emphasizing that the process cannot be understood through election calculations, Hatimoğulları stated that those who expect an alliance as a result of the contacts with the AKP and MHP are mistaken, saying, "This issue goes far beyond the ballot box. Those trying to create an electoral alliance from this will not achieve any results."
DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, who attended the "Democratic Society and Peace Meeting" organized by the Çanakkale Municipality at the Wedding Hall, made striking evaluations in her speech here.
RESPONSE TO ÖZEL'S "STOCKHOLM SYNDROME" COMPARISON: WE KNOW THE EXECUTOR VERY WELL
Responding to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who criticized the DEM Party's stance in the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process, Hatimoğulları stated, "To use the metaphor of falling in love with one's executioner or Stockholm syndrome for us is, at the very least, a mental lapse. We are representatives of a revolutionary, socialist, and patriotic tradition that has resisted all pressures throughout history without getting tired or weary. We know the executioner very well. The people's struggle for freedom cannot be limited by the psychological games of oppressive powers. With the strength we draw from our own history, we will continue to resist all forms of oppression." she said.
"THOSE TRYING TO FORM AN ELECTION ALLIANCE WILL NOT ACHIEVE RESULTS"
Speaking about the possibility of the process turning into an alliance, Hatimoğulları used the following expressions: "Since the AKP and MHP are in the executive branch of the government, there is a discussion with them. Those trying to derive an election alliance from this will not achieve any results. Our issue is far beyond the election. This is not an election issue. Those who see the Kurdish issue as an election matter and the Kurdish voter as their own voter are mistaken. I say this for the government and for the opposition as well. This process is one that is much broader than the narrow sense of the interests of a political party regarding election and being elected. We are carrying out this process to establish a dignified peace that we have longed for a hundred years in these lands."
WHAT DID ÖZEL SAY?
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, in his speech at the 39th Ordinary Congress of his party, where he was elected as chairman for the 4th time, made a reference to the DEM Party without mentioning its name, saying, "I invite everyone not to fall into Stockholm Syndrome, not to fall in love with the executioner we barely escaped from yesterday. As the squares cry out without stopping; there is no salvation alone, either together or none of us."
