In Düzce, a citizen believed a message received via the WhatsApp application stating "you have obtained a large amount of grant credit" and sent 1 million 58 thousand 400 lira to the IBAN number provided by the suspects. Upon realizing he had been scammed, the citizen reported the incident, leading to a simultaneous operation conducted by police teams in Kocaeli and Izmir, where 5 suspects were caught, 3 of whom were arrested.
A citizen in Düzce who believed the "grant loan" message received on his phone lost 1 million liras.
HE BELIEVED THE MESSAGE FROM WHATSAPP AND SENT HIS ENTIRE SAVINGS
According to the information obtained, F.S. (50), who lives in Düzce, believed the message he received via the WhatsApp application stating "you have obtained a large amount of grant loan" and sent 1 million 58 thousand 400 liras to the IBAN number provided by the suspects. After a while, F.S. could not reach the people he contacted and realized he had been scammed, and reported the situation to the security forces on February 23, filing a complaint.
MOVEMENT OF 8 MILLION LIRAS DETECTED IN ACCOUNTS
Upon the complaint, the Provincial Gendarmerie Command's Cyber Crime Combat Branch teams initiated an investigation coordinated by the Düzce Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, identifying the identities and addresses based on the phone numbers used by the suspects.
After approximately 2 months of work, teams carried out simultaneous operations at 4 addresses in Kocaeli and 1 in Izmir, detaining E.Ş. (55), H.S.K. (48), V.E. (45), B.N.A. (26), and E.Y. (46). As a result of correspondence with relevant institutions and banks within the scope of the investigation, it was determined that there had been approximately 8 million liras in money inflow and outflow in the suspects' accounts in the last month.
3 WERE ARRESTED
After their procedures at the gendarmerie, the suspects H.S.K., E.Ş., and E.Y. were referred to the courthouse and arrested by the duty magistrate, and were delivered to the Düzce Type T Closed Penal Institution. The other suspects B.N.A. and V.E. were released under judicial control.
