In Istanbul's Başakşehir district, a woman's body was found in an empty lot, killed by a blow to the head with a stone. As details of the murder emerge, the suspect, allegedly involved in a romantic relationship with the woman, was sent to court after procedures at the Public Order Branch Directorate were completed. The suspect reportedly stated in his testimony, "I hit her head with a stone, and when she didn't die, I strangled her with a rope I grabbed." The last moments of the victim, Sultan Çağhan, before her death have also been revealed.
The Istanbul Police Department, tracking a young woman reported missing in Başakşehir, has uncovered a chilling murder.
Sultan Çağan's family applied to the Güvercintepe police station on June 18, stating that their daughter had stayed overtime at the textile workshop where she worked and should have returned home around 10:00 PM, but she did not and they could not reach her. Police launched an operation to find Sultan Çağan.
HER LAST IMAGES OBTAINED
As part of the investigation carried out by the Missing Persons Bureau, police accessed security camera footage and obtained Sultan Çağan's last images. The footage shows the young woman leaving her workplace, entering a market to shop, and then boarding a car waiting for her. Meanwhile, following technical and physical surveillance and field work, it was determined that Sultan Çağan had been in a romantic relationship for two years with a man named Vedat Ç., whom she had met at the textile workshop. It was learned that Vedat Ç. had left the workplace some time ago and started working at a pastry shop.
THE SUSPECT DETAINED INITIALLY DENIED
Upon this development, the Missing Persons Bureau teams detained Vedat Ç. In his initial statement, Vedat Ç. said he had never seen Sultan Çağan, but later stated that he had met her on the night of the incident, but after driving 100 meters, he made her get out of the car and did not know what happened.
POLICE'S ATTENTION SOLVED THE MURDER
The Missing Persons Bureau teams noticed a few scratches on Vedat Ç.'s neck. Upon this, they asked him to remove his t-shirt. When the suspect removed his t-shirt, it was seen that his entire body was covered with nail marks. Unable to explain the nail marks on his body, Vedat Ç. reportedly confessed to the murder in tears.
HE DESCRIBED THE MURDER IN EVERY DETAIL
In his statement given at the Public Order Branch Directorate, Vedat Ç. said he had a romantic relationship with Sultan Çağan but had wanted to break up recently. He said, "I had a fiancée I was planning to marry. For this reason, I wanted to break up with her. But she opposed this. She said she would tell my family about our relationship, disgrace me, and prevent my marriage."
"FIRST I HIT HER HEAD WITH A STONE, WHEN SHE DIDN'T DIE, I STRANGLED HER WITH A CLOTHESLINE"
Describing that they met on the day of the incident to discuss the situation again, Vedat Ç. said, "We got out of the car and started talking. An argument broke out between us over this breakup issue. When she threatened me again, I hit her head with a stone I found on the ground. She fell to the ground covered in blood. But when I saw she wasn't dead, I strangled her with a clothesline I found on the ground and killed her."
AFTER THE MURDER, HE SLEPT AND WENT TO WORK IN THE MORNING
Vedat Ç., who described the murder in all its details at the Missing Persons Bureau, said, "When she became motionless, I first threw her slippers, which were scattered around, into the water. Then I threw her bag into the water as well. After smashing her mobile phone with a stone to make it unusable, I also threw it into the water. I deleted the conversations I had with her from my own phone, returned home, and slept. In the morning, I went to the pastry shop where I work and started working as usual." The suspect Vedat Ç., whose procedures at the police station were completed, was sent to the courthouse.
