The warning sign hung by Köfteci Yusuf, which prohibits pet entry in all its branches across Turkey, has become a topic of discussion again.
Discussions continue regarding the ban on pets entering the branches of the famous restaurant chain Köfteci Yusuf. The topic, frequently brought up by social media users, recently came to the fore with a sign posted in the shops.
EVERYONE IS SHARING THE POSTED SIGN
The sign posted in the shops read: "Dear Guests; we are delighted to see you in our restaurant. Pets are an indispensable part of our lives, and we greatly value the love for them. However, we are obliged to inform you that pets are not allowed inside for the sake of your health, comfort, and hygiene. This decision has been made in accordance with the requirements of the Veterinary Services, Plant Health, Food and Feed Law No. 5996. Your health and the health of your loved ones are our top priority. Thank you for your understanding, and we wish you pleasant moments with your friends in open areas."
MINISTRY TAKES ACTION
Meanwhile, as debates continued, some fully supported the decision on hygienic grounds, while animal lovers reacted to the situation and argued that this restriction should be loosened in places like restaurants and cafes. According to current laws, the decision on whether pets can enter such establishments was entirely at the discretion of restaurant owners. However, this situation is completely changing with the intervention of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
A FULL RESTRICTION COMES FOR BOTH INDOOR AND OUTDOOR AREAS
A new draft regulation planned to be added to the laws determining food safety and production hygiene standards aims to completely stop pets' access to places where food is sold.
If the draft, which the Ministry plans to submit to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) in the new legislative period, becomes law:
- Businesses will no longer be able to open both indoor and outdoor areas (gardens, terraces, etc.) where they accept customers to pets.
- The decision to accept pets will not be left to the discretion of the business.
- Companies that violate the ban rules and allow pets in their establishments will face administrative fines.
