S.G., who was determined to have followed Aysel H. walking on a street in Şişli, verbally harassed her, and attempted physical contact, was caught by police while making bread at the bakery where he worked. While the suspect was arrested for 'sexual harassment' and sent to prison, Aysel H. called out, saying, 'Please, if you encounter this, raise your voice.'
In the incident that took place on Sunday, June 21, in Meşrutiyet Neighborhood of Şişli district of Istanbul, Aysel H. noticed a person following her while walking on the street.
FOLLOWED AND HARASSED
The suspect, identified as S.G. (29), verbally harassed Aysel H. and attempted to make physical contact before quickly walking away from the street. After the incident, Aysel H. went to the police station to file a complaint, and an investigation was launched. Examining the security camera footage from the area, police teams identified the suspect as S.G. (29).
ARRESTED WHILE MAKING BREAD
Further investigations revealed that S.G. was working at a bakery in Şişli. The suspect, who was arrested while making bread, was also found to be employed without insurance, and administrative proceedings were initiated against the workplace. After police procedures, S.G. was referred to the courthouse on charges of 'sexual harassment' and was arrested by the court and sent to prison. The incident was captured on the security camera of a nearby business.
"BROUGHT TO THE POLICE STATION, I IDENTIFIED HIM"
Following her ordeal, Aysel H. made a statement on her social media account, saying, "Today I was at the Şişli Police Headquarters all day. I gave my statement. While I was giving my statement, I learned that the person was identified and apprehended as a result of the teams' intensive and meticulous work and hours of camera footage review. The suspect was brought to the police station and I identified him. All details were shared with me while I was there, the process was explained. Therefore, I truly thank the teams. Especially the Public Order Bureau at Şişli Police Headquarters did a very thorough job, identifying and catching the suspect in a short time. I thank them."
"PLEASE SPEAK UP"
Aysel H. stated, "I can only provide this information about the suspect. Of course, I don't have much detail about him, and he is currently apprehended. So, this is a very gratifying situation. For me, it's very pleasing that he was caught quickly. I hope nothing like this happens to anyone else. I hope we never face such situations, but please, if you do, speak up. I hope these will end. Please protect your rights and demand them. That's what I do, or at least I try to."
"I CAN NOW CONTINUE MY LIFE WITH EASE"
Aysel H. concluded, "I also thank everyone for their support and interest. I received many messages and calls and couldn't respond to anyone today. It was truly an intense and exhausting day. I can now continue my life with ease. The legal process will of course continue. I will inform you from time to time when I get updates on the process. Thank you all again."
