Mustafa Tolun, who lives in Adana, claimed that the bank card and IBAN information he gave to his neighbor and childhood friend turned his life upside down. Tolun, who left Turkey and went to the USA due to fraud cases filed against him, was caught under an Interpol red notice and extradited to Turkey. Tolun stated that he received a total of 9 years and 4 months in prison from 3 cases, while 4 cases are still pending trial.
Mustafa Tolun, residing in Adana, claimed that his life was turned upside down after giving his bank card and IBAN information to his neighbor, who was his childhood friend. Tolun, who left Turkey and went to the USA due to fraud cases filed in his name, was caught as a result of an Interpol arrest warrant issued for him and sent back to Turkey. Stating that he was sentenced to a total of 9 years and 4 months in prison across 3 separate cases, Tolun said that the judicial process for 4 of his cases is still ongoing.
"I GAVE MY PASSWORDS TO MY NEIGHBOR"
Tolun, 26, who stated that he is in prison and came out on leave, said, "I gave my card and internet banking password to my neighbor. They told me they were collecting cards for virtual betting in 2019. They said this was not an illegal activity. They even gave me confidence by citing a few of my friends as examples."
"AN ACCOUNT WAS OPENED ON A WEBSITE IN MY NAME"
Tolun described what happened as follows: "Later, an account was opened on a website in my name, and products were sold from there. However, the products were not shipped. Since the account was in my name, cases were filed against me. I currently have a 9-year and 4-month sentence. My lawyer told me these are public lawsuits and no matter how much I defend myself, I could still be sentenced. I was young at the time. I didn't want to go to prison, so I went to the USA. But there, I learned I was being sought by Interpol and was caught and extradited to Turkey."
"I KEEP GETTING SENTENCED"
Tolun stated that the total damage was 17,000 lira, saying, "Seven lawsuits were filed due to this amount. I am being sentenced to over 3 years for each case. I also covered the damages of the victims. However, since it is a public lawsuit, I keep getting sentenced. The people who dragged me into this deny everything. I am not the only victim here. Accounts of people in different provinces were also used. In a photo shared by the Ministry of Justice, there were faces of about 50 people, and I saw myself in that photo. What I experienced still feels very strange to me even now," he said.
