Social media influencer Merve A., known by the nickname 'Karagül' in Bursa, had stabbed a woman named Gülcan Ö. during a live broadcast after an argument on the street. Her trial continued today, and Merve A. requested her release, stating that she is six months pregnant and experiencing health issues. The court released 'Karagül' with the judicial control condition of a ban on traveling abroad.
In the Osmangazi district of Bursa's city center, Merve A., known by the nickname 'Karagul', wounded Gulcan O. with a knife during an argument while broadcasting live on a social media platform, and was subsequently taken into custody and arrested. Merve A.'s trial continued.
SAID SHE REGRETS IT
Complainant Gulcan O. and lawyers from both sides attended the hearing at the 27th Criminal Court of First Instance in Bursa. Merve A., who attended the hearing from the prison where she is held via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBIS), stated that she was sad and regretful about the incident.
The defendant, requesting a release decision, said, "I am 6 months pregnant. I have caught an infection. For the health of my baby, I request that a release decision be made for me."
Defense lawyer Ugur Kosa also stated that the injury incident occurred under unjust provocation.
CAUGHT AN INFECTION
Stating that the defendant was sad and regretful, Kosa said, "We request a release decision for the defendant due to her pregnancy and in line with hospital reports. The defendant has caught an infection. Additionally, she has 3 more children she is responsible for. We request a release decision for the defendant, taking into account the health board report."
RELEASED
Complainant Gulcan O., however, claimed that she did not provoke the defendant during the incident and requested that the defendant's detention continue.
The court judge, who decided to release the defendant with a ban on traveling abroad, adjourned the hearing.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In the incident that occurred last April in Demirtas Cumhuriyet District, an argument broke out between Merve A. and Gulcan O., and as the argument escalated, Merve A. wounded Gulcan O. with a knife.
Teams from the Osmangazi District Police Department took suspect Merve A. into custody with the weapon used in the crime. It was reported that in her statement, suspect Merve A. stated that while she was broadcasting live on the social media platform TikTok, Gulcan O. came to her and attacked her, and she responded with the cutting tool she had on her to stop this person.
After her procedures at the police station, the suspect was referred to the courthouse and arrested by the judge.
