A chilling incident occurred yesterday evening around 21:00 at the intersection of Başkent Street and Yaz Street in the Ataevler neighborhood of Kartepe district. Erhan Derse (37) had an argument for an unknown reason with his girlfriend İpek Genç (35) and his brother Abdullah Barış Genç (23) who were returning from shopping.

Derse shot his girlfriend and brother with a gun, then pointed the same gun at his head and fired. Upon hearing the gunshots, nearby residents alerted the 112 Emergency Call Center, and health and police teams were dispatched to the area. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals by health teams. İpek Genç and her brother Abdullah Barış Genç, along with Erhan Derse, could not be saved despite all the medical intervention.
It was learned that İpek Genç worked as a nurse and was a mother of one child, and an investigation has been launched regarding the chilling incident.
29 FEMICIDES IN JUST AUGUST
According to the data from the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, 29 femicides were committed in August alone, and 28 women were found dead under suspicious circumstances.
Of the 29 women killed, 3 were murdered under the pretext of wanting to divorce, refusing to reconcile, refusing to marry, or rejecting a relationship; 7 were killed for economic reasons, and 1 woman was killed under the pretext of hatred.
