Entrepreneur Seyfettin Kavak, who left the textile workshop he co-owned in Adana to engage in agriculture, is sending the bulbs and seeds of the white lily he cultivates to many provinces in Turkey while also preparing for export abroad.
32-year-old Seyfettin Kavak, who has been working in the textile sector since a young age in Adana, opened a textile workshop with a friend in 2021 using his savings.
TURNED TO FARMING WHEN BUSINESS DIDN'T GO AS PLANNED As the year came to an end and business did not go as expected, Kavak transferred his workplace to his partner and began searching for new opportunities. He rented 50 acres of land in the Karakuyu neighborhood of the Karaisalı district and started growing vegetables. After suffering losses from this production, Kavak decided to produce bulbous plants, which he had previously grown as a hobby, for income.
EXPORTING TO MANY CITIES AND ABROAD Kavak, who established the Çukurova Agro-Precious Plants company, started white lily production for R&D purposes on a one-acre area in 2023. In the first year of production, he sent the bulbs and seeds he obtained to many cities, including Ankara, Zonguldak, Diyarbakır, and Konya. With the increase in demand, Kavak expanded the production area to 3 acres and is preparing to send white lily bulbs abroad as well as to the domestic market.
A BUSINESS SECTOR WITH A READY MARKET Entrepreneur Seyfettin Kavak stated that he faced difficulties in agriculture due to a lack of experience after transferring his textile workshop. He mentioned that after not finding what he hoped for in vegetable cultivation, he turned to the cultivation of bulbous plants that he had been curious about for years, saying: "I obtained the necessary permits and licenses and started the agricultural production of the white lily, which I had previously grown as a hobby, with a bismillah. I multiplied the products I grew and reached a certain level. Over time, I increased the planting area and quantity. Now, thank God, I am producing white lilies on nearly 3 acres. The labor is minimal; I work with my wife. It is a business sector with no problems in production, and the market is quite transparent and ready."
Kavak noted that he started receiving products in the first year of his cultivation and sent them to many cities. He explained that as he made sales to the domestic market, exporting companies also contacted him, stating that he made an agreement to send white lily bulbs to the Netherlands. Kavak mentioned that he currently obtains an average of 60-80 white lily bulbs from the 3-acre area.
AIMING TO EXPAND PRODUCTION AREA Kavak stated that he plans to expand his production area, expressing: "In the upcoming 2026-2027 season, I plan to increase my white lily production to 10 acres. I am also producing saffron on a 5-acre area, which I will also expand. In this sense, we are very happy. I am someone who loves to produce and contribute to my country. I am much happier when I receive the value of my labor. I enjoy my production because I can get the worth of the product. This is the most important positive aspect that makes me happy."
Kavak also added that he is ready to provide all kinds of support to entrepreneurs or hobbyists.
