A baklava company based in Hatay stated that they have started selling baklava by charging for the box weight with banners hung at their 21 branches. The company representative noted that the average weight of a one-kilogram baklava box is about 100 grams, saying, "We made this decision based on customer requests. This way, our customers only pay for the product they purchase. They do not pay for the box."
The baklava company based in Hatay has hung banners in its 21 branches stating "The box tare is taken in this establishment" due to ongoing discussions between customers and bakers regarding the tare of baklava boxes.
"THEY ONLY PAY FOR THE PRODUCT THEY PURCHASE"
Company official Mehmet Gülen stated, "We take the box tare; our customers only pay for the product they purchase, and we ensure that they do not pay for the weight of the box. We made this decision based on requests from our customers."
"A ONE KILOGRAM BAKLAVA BOX WEIGHS 100 GRAMS"
Gülen expressed that when baklava, priced at 1000 lira per kilogram, is sold with a box weighing 100 grams, 100 lira is paid for the box. "The average weight of a one-kilogram baklava box is about 100 grams. A customer who buys one kilogram of baklava for 1000 lira was previously paying an average of 100 lira for the box. With the implementation we initiated as a company, by taking the box tare, our customers only pay for the baklava they purchase. The reactions from the citizens have been positive. Some say 'God bless you,' and others express their thanks. There are those who say that the application we have implemented is correct," he stated.
"NO ONE SHOULD TAKE AWAY OTHERS' RIGHTS"
Aydın Gezer expressed that the company that started taking box tare has put an end to a significant mistake, saying, "I am a tradesman here. Reducing the weight of boxes in baklava sales and taking tare is a very good practice. In high-priced baklava, people are suffering. Our friends here have initiated a very good application, and we congratulate them. Not taking the tare of the box in high-priced baklava creates a high burden. I congratulate the company and hope all firms take these friends as an example. No one should take away others' rights," he said.
