The trial of Maşallah Tan and Mücahit Sertkaya, who killed the person they argued with in Bursa by stabbing them in the throat, has begun. Tan said, "My aim was not to kill. During the scuffle, the knife fell from my hand. I picked up the knife from the ground and swung it in panic. I could not foresee that it would hit a fatal area." The court ordered the arrest of the previously free defendant.
The trial began for Maşallah Tan (20) and Mücahit Sertkaya (20), who killed Hamdullah Yaman (36) by stabbing him in the throat after an argument in Bursa. In his defense during the hearing, Tan said, "My intention was not to kill. The knife fell from my hand during the scuffle. I picked it up and swung it in panic. I couldn't calculate that it would hit a fatal area."
STABBED IN THE THROAT The incident occurred on March 22 at around 17:00 in the Karapınar neighborhood of Yıldırım district. An argument broke out for an unknown reason between Maşallah Tan and Mücahit Sertkaya, who were sitting in Karapınar Park, and Hamdullah Yaman, who was passing by on his motorcycle. During the argument, which quickly escalated, Tan stabbed Yaman in the throat.
As Hamdullah Yaman collapsed in a pool of blood, bystanders who rushed to help reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene upon the report. After initial medical intervention at the scene, Yaman was taken to Kestel State Hospital. Despite doctors' efforts, Yaman could not be saved.
FIRST FLED THEN SURRENDERED Police teams launched an operation to capture Maşallah Tan, who fled after the incident. While teams detained Mücahit Sertkaya, the fleeing Maşallah Tan surrendered to the police. After processing at the police station, the suspects were referred to the courthouse; Tan was arrested, and Mücahit Sertkaya was given house arrest.
LIFE IMPRISONMENT SOUGHT The trial of Maşallah Tan and Mücahit Sertkaya, who face life imprisonment on charges of 'intentional killing,' began at the Bursa 4th Heavy Penal Court. In addition to the defendants, Hamdullah Yaman's wife Mariye Yaman, brother Emre Yaman, father Ahmet Yaman, and their lawyers attended the hearing.
KILLED IN PANIC AFTER KNIFE FELL During the hearing, the detained defendant Maşallah Tan stated that he and Mücahit Sertkaya had been drinking alcohol on the day of the incident, saying, "That day, my friend Mücahit and I were drinking and sitting in the park. Meanwhile, I saw my friend K.E., who was riding behind Hamdullah on the motorcycle, and greeted him. He greeted me back calling me 'Maşo,' my nickname. Then Hamdullah, who was driving, said they were in a hurry, cursed at me, pushed me, and wanted to continue. When the argument turned into a scuffle, I took out my knife. The knife fell from my hand. I picked it up and swung it randomly in a panic, and it hit his throat. I couldn't calculate that it would hit a fatal area. My intention was not to kill him. Since I didn't think it would hit his throat when I swung the knife, I didn't intervene. Then I left the scene and threw the knife by the stream," he said.
Stating that he surrendered to the police when he learned that Hamdullah Yaman had died, Tan said, "The other defendant, Mücahit Sertkaya, was trying to separate us during the fight. Mücahit Sertkaya was not involved in this incident. I am very sorry."
FAMILY REMOVED FROM COURTROOM When the City Security Management System (KGYS) cameras were shown, the victim's father and brother reacted to the defendant. After watching the footage of the incident, brother Emre Yaman turned to the defendant and said, "I will kill you," and was removed from the courtroom by the court president along with his father.
"MAŞALLAH FLED, I ACTED AS A BUFFER" Mücahit Sertkaya, claiming he was not involved in the incident, stated that he tried to separate the fight, saying, "While I was walking ahead, Maşallah was coming from behind. When I looked back, Maşallah was fighting. I tried to separate the parties. I moved Hamdullah Yaman and K.E. away. Later, Hamdullah came back. While I was trying to calm him down, I tapped his shoulder with my hand. He also hit me. When Maşallah attacked, I pulled Hamdullah to protect him. I didn't see that Maşallah had a knife. Meanwhile, the three of us fell to the ground together. I continued to separate them. Then Hamdullah and Maşallah fell into a canal. When I saw blood on my hand, I realized Hamdullah had been stabbed. I said to Maşallah, 'What have you done?' Then Maşallah left. I acted as a buffer and called 112. I have no involvement in the incident. I intervened to separate them," he said.
"HE WAS LYING IN A POOL OF BLOOD IN THE PARK" The victim's wife, Mariye Yaman, who said she was filing a complaint against both defendants, stated that she learned her husband was injured and involved in a fight in the park later, saying, "When I went to the park, my husband was lying on the ground in a pool of blood. I see the defendants for the first time. My husband had no grudges. I am filing a complaint."
HOUSE ARREST LIFTED, ARRESTED After listening to the defenses of the lawyers, the court panel decided to continue Maşallah Tan's detention and to arrest Mücahit Sertkaya, who was under house arrest, and adjourned the hearing.
