Four individuals who stole parked cars in Istanbul using imitation ignition keys were caught and arrested by the police. Among the suspects, a 73-year-old man was taken to the courthouse with the help of crutches and police assistance, and it was revealed that he had a criminal record of 29 offenses in the past. Some of the stolen cars have been returned to their owners.

Four suspects were caught by the police for stealing parked cars in Istanbul by using imitation ignition keys. The suspects were captured on security cameras during the thefts. A.G., a 73-year-old among the suspects, was taken to the courthouse with the help of two police officers due to difficulty walking because of his age. The four suspects were arrested and sent to prison.

CAR THEFTS SPURRED POLICE ACTION

Following car thefts that occurred in Küçükçekmece, Sultangazi, Bahçelievler, and Bağcılar, the Public Order Branch Directorate and the Auto Theft Bureau teams launched an investigation. With permission from the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, technical and physical surveillance was initiated. After approximately two months of monitoring, the security camera footage of the suspects was obtained. The footage revealed that the suspects stole parked cars and then removed their license plates.

THEY SOLD THE PARTS AS SPARE PARTS

The Auto Theft Bureau teams identified the suspects and the method they used in their operation. It was determined that the suspects stole older model vehicles using imitation ignition keys, then took them to side streets in Bağcılar, Mahmutbey Neighborhood, or Küçükçekmece Mehmet Akif Neighborhood and parked them. After waiting a few days, the suspects returned, removed the license plates from the cars, and dismantled them into parts at repair shops to sell as spare parts.

73 YEARS OLD WITH 29 CRIMINAL RECORDS

In the operations carried out, the suspects A.G. (73), U.K. (42), Y.D. (45), and A.U.K. (57) were detained. It was observed that 73-year-old suspect A.G. had difficulty walking due to his age, and it was determined that he had 29 previous criminal records with the police. It was revealed that the other suspects had 19 records for U.K., 15 for Y.D., and 2 for A.U.K.

STRUGGLED TO WALK WITH POLICE ASSISTANCE

    As a result of the investigation, the suspects were referred to the courthouse for a total of 10 separate cases, including 8 auto thefts and 2 forgery of official documents. The 73-year-old A.G. was taken to the courthouse with difficulty from the Public Order Branch Directorate with the help of two police officers due to his age. While the four suspects were arrested and sent to prison, the police found and returned 3 stolen cars to their owners. It was learned that efforts to locate the other stolen vehicles were ongoing.
