D.S., who was taken hostage at gunpoint by her ex-husband in Ankara, recounted that the violence and threats she has faced for years have not come to an end. Despite multiple restraining orders, the woman, who has been followed and attacked, shared her terrifying moments in tears, saying, "I thought I was going to die that day. I asked for help many times, but nothing was done to stop it."
In the Pursaklar district of Ankara, D.S., who was taken hostage by her ex-husband M.Ç. with a gun pointed at her head and rescued after a two-hour negotiation effort, said, "I said I am dying, I am leaving. He was not convinced in any way. I thought he would carry out the threats he had made until that day."
In the incident that occurred the day before yesterday in the Pursaklar district, D.S. was taken hostage by her ex-husband M.Ç. as she exited the district governor's office, where she had gone to change her identity after their divorce. M.Ç. threatened D.S. by pointing a gun at her head after taking her to an empty land next to the district governor's building. M.Ç. surrendered and laid down the weapon as a result of the negotiation efforts that included Pursaklar District Governor Üzeyir Aziz Özeren and District Police Chief Eşref Güldemir. M.Ç., who was taken into custody, was arrested by the court he was brought to yesterday.
"HE SHOT MY BROTHER'S CAR, MY SON'S ROOM" D.S. was placed under protection. Speaking to DHA, D.S. recounted her experiences. She stated that she had married M.Ç. for the second time but claimed that she had experienced violence throughout their 14-year marriage, saying, "I was subjected to physical and psychological violence during the marriage. I started living separately in 2018. In 2023, I filed for divorce due to an assault incident. It was a contested divorce that lasted 2 years. During this time, he continued his threats. For those 2 years, he threatened not only me but also my family, friends, and even my lawyer. He shot my brother's car. The case is now closed due to lack of evidence. But I knew it was him; because he was sending me messages saying he would do this beforehand. He was tracking my entry and exit times. He was writing that he knew. About 6 months after that, he shot my son's room. He was constantly sending messages saying, 'If you don't come back, if you don't reconcile with me, I will kill all of you.' He was violating the restraining orders. I changed my phone number. He reached that too. He was even accessing the hospital records we went to. He spoke as if he knew everything, but I think he was finding this information through an application," she said.
"THAT DAY HAD COME, I THOUGHT I WOULD DIE" D.S. stated that when she left the district governor's office after changing her identity, she saw her ex-husband in front of her, saying, "He told me, 'Don't run away.' He said, 'Do you see how I found you?' He said, 'I told you I would kill you, you wouldn't be able to escape.' Then he pointed the gun at my head. There was a school behind me. I stepped back towards the school. There were children and working women there. I told them to stay away. Because I thought I would be killed, and I thought if they intervened, he would do something to them. Then I said, 'Don't do anything in front of the children.' He grabbed me by my clothes and dragged me outside. There was an empty land next to the school. He took me towards that land. Meanwhile, the gun was at my head. I said, 'I am dying, I am leaving.' He was not convinced in any way. I thought he would carry out the threats he had made until that day. I had received so many restraining orders, I had cried so much at the police station, I had begged people to try to explain to them that he was serious. But he was not being stopped. He was not leaving. And that day had come; I thought I would die. I thought he wanted someone. Then a phone call was made. That person came. He convinced him. I didn't hear what they said, what they talked about. Or I don't remember at that moment due to shock," she said.
D.S., who described the great fear she experienced, said, "I want the courts to continue, and I really want the highest level of punishment to be given. I want those who helped him, those who helped him access that information, the person who informed him of my appointment, or how he reached it, and those who give such information to men that lead to the deaths of women to be revealed. I want this to end now. Women should not die anymore; something must change," she expressed.
"HE WAS SENDING VIDEOS OF DIGGING GRAVES" D.S. claimed that she received threatening messages related to ongoing femicides, saying, "In one of the last messages he sent, he said that killing me, shooting me would not be enough, that he would take out my heart, and even cut off my head, and that he would do this as a lesson for others. He was sending me video clips of him digging graves in deserted places, meaning he was digging the ground with a shovel. He would write under it, 'You know why I am doing this,' or he would say these things out loud. He was constantly sending threatening messages related to threats and horrific violence scenarios. He was sending insinuating messages saying, 'You see, right? You heard it, right? You are scared, right?' I don't know what to say. I just want him to face the highest level of punishment," she said.
