A second illegal floor built on top of a four-story building in the Fatih district of Istanbul has caused great astonishment among citizens. Illegal structures are raising concerns about earthquake risks. ANOTHER ILLEGAL FLOOR ON TOP OF AN ILLEGAL FLOORWhile many illegal structures on buildings in Fatih draw attention, the four-story building across from Haseki Training and Research Hospital has left onlookers in shock. An illegal floor was built on top of another illegal floor in the building. Local residents discussing illegal structures expressed that they increase the risk of collapse during an earthquake. "EVERYONE IS THINKING ABOUT THEIR OWN POCKET"Eyüp Ekşi, a resident of the neighborhood, stated, "There are many illegal and prohibited structures in Istanbul. They come, look, and no one cares. Therefore, this should be a problem, but there is nothing to be done. Everyone is thinking about their own pocket. The buildings are becoming defective, water is accumulating, everything is falling apart. They are incurring a huge cost." Another resident, Hüseyin Korkut, who stated that precautions should be taken against earthquake risks, said, "Unfortunately, people are building illegal floors on top of four floors. What will happen when an earthquake occurs is obvious. They will all collapse. There will be a lot of human casualties."
