The wife of AK Party Aksaray Deputy Hüseyin Altınsoy sparked major backlash for obtaining a "poverty certificate." After the controversy, Altınsoy issued a statement, explaining that his wife obtained the document to avoid paying court fees in an inheritance case, and apologized to the public.
CHP Ankara Deputy Umut Akdoğan announced that AK Party Aksaray Deputy Hüseyin Altınsoy's wife obtained a "poverty certificate" from the neighborhood headman's office to avoid paying court fees. Akdoğan stated that the Aksaray Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation into both the person who issued the certificate and the deputy's wife who received it.
Following the allegations that drew public reaction, attention turned to Hüseyin Altınsoy.
ALTINSOY: I DEEPLY REGRET IT
In a statement on his social media account, Hüseyin Altınsoy said that the case in question is an inheritance lawsuit filed between his wife and her sisters. Altınsoy used the following expressions in his post:
"The case mentioned in the public is a lawsuit for cancellation and registration of title deed due to fraudulent inheritance transactions, filed jointly by my wife and four sisters against their brother. Since the economic situation of my wife's sisters is poor, they applied to the court to benefit from legal aid.
As it is a joint lawsuit, the case was filed in the 8th month of 2025 with the partnership of the four sisters. It is not legally or morally possible for either my wife or me to accept legal aid. Within the judicial process, according to the court's interim decision, the court fee will be completed within the given period (9th month of 2026), and the legal process will continue.
"I APOLOGIZE TO THE PUBLIC"
I want to clearly state that, even if it is due to political reasons, I deeply regret coming to the public's attention in this way and I apologize to the public.
I also want to express my sorrow that the issue has been exploited by CHP members, bringing up a matter about which I had no knowledge or involvement. I would be pleased if CHP shows the same sensitivity within its own ranks. I remind them to follow the ongoing legal processes in provinces such as Uşak, Istanbul, and Antalya with this sensitivity, and I respectfully submit this to the public."
COURT FEE WILL BE COMPLETED
In his statement, Altınsoy said that the judicial process continues and the fee will be deposited within the specified period in line with the court's interim decision. The statement also argued that the controversy was blown out of proportion for political reasons.
