18-year-old open water swimmer Eda Savcıgil swam 28 kilometers from the island of Capri in Italy to Naples in 9 hours. The young swimmer became the youngest athlete to complete this course and also broke the course record among all athletes, both male and female.
Ultra marathon swimmer Eda Savcigil achieved a historic success in Italy. The 18-year-old open water swimmer from Izmir swam the 28-kilometer distance from the island of Capri to Naples in Italy in 9 hours.
ACHIEVING A FIRST AND BREAKING THE COURSE RECORD
Eda Savcigil, who came first in the Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli, also became the first Turkish athlete to complete the Capri-Napoli course. Eda not only became the youngest athlete to complete the challenging course but also broke the course record among all athletes, both female and male.
''INDESCRIBABLE HAPPINESS''
Eda Savcigil has set her new goal as the Oceans 7, which Bengisu Avci completed and made history. Eda stated on her social media account, "Being the first Turk to solo finish the Capri-Napoli (Vesuvius) 28K course and becoming the 2026 overall champion is an indescribable happiness."
‘SOMETIMES SUCCESS IS BEING ABLE TO CONTINUE THE PATH’
The successful athlete shared the message, "I can say it was the race where I struggled the most both physically and mentally. Completing this course healthily, enjoyably, and successfully is very valuable to me. I thank my family very much for always supporting me and believing in me. While juggling university preparation and swimming, I learned not to give up. I continued despite a minor injury I had a week ago. Sometimes success is being able to continue on the path. My excitement is immense. Seeing our flag wave in first place and swimming for it is worth all the fatigue and pain. I also thank all my coaches who have been with me on this journey, supported my training, guided me, and my training partners with whom I swam. Now there are new goals and new adventures ahead. Many courses await me, I continue to work."
