The Norwegian Football Federation will hold a vote on whether to remove the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system from the leagues. The VAR system, which has been officially used since 2018, may no longer be used in Norway starting next week. The federation will put the continuation of VAR in the first and second divisions to a vote during the congress scheduled for March 1-2.

The Norwegian Football Federation will put to a vote whether to continue using VAR in the 1st and 2nd leagues during the congress to be held on March 1-2.

THERE WAS REACTION

The VAR system, which started being used in Norway in 2023, was met with backlash from fans due to its excessive impact on the flow of the game. Shortly after the start of the match between Rosenborg and Lillestrom, fans protested VAR by throwing foreign objects onto the field.

A VOTE WILL BE HELD

In a meeting held in January with the participation of 32 teams in the 1st and 2nd leagues in Norway, 19 clubs requested the removal of VAR, while 13 voted for its continued use. According to reports from AP, a letter was sent to the Norwegian Football Federation after the vote, urging the majority's decision to be supported and VAR to be removed as soon as possible. Lise Klaveness, the President of the Norwegian Football Federation, expressed support for VAR but stated that improvements need to be made.
