In the voting on the draft titled "Peaceful Resolution of the Palestinian Question," 151 member countries voted "yes," while 11 countries, including Israel and the USA, voted "no." In the vote, 11 countries abstained.
TURKEY CALLS FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE DECISION
Before the vote, Turkey's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ahmet Yıldız, stated that Turkey firmly supports the decision regarding the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian question and called on all member countries to work diligently for the implementation of these decisions. Yıldız described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as "alarming," emphasizing that the death toll has exceeded 70,000 due to Israeli attacks and that the collapsing infrastructure continues to devastate the region.
Pointing out that there have been encouraging developments in the diplomatic arena despite the destruction in Gaza, Yıldız drew attention to a series of developments in the past year that have increased international support for a two-state solution. Yıldız stated, "We welcome the establishment of a ceasefire after two years of devastating conflict and intense humanitarian suffering in Gaza. Turkey, as a mediator, calls for the complete and faithful implementation of ceasefire agreements, including Security Council Resolution 2803 and the 20-point peace plan."
Yıldız emphasized that the international community must support the provision of uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Gaza at the necessary scale and warned about the immediate initiation of reconstruction in Gaza and the prevention of the spread of violence in the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, or the broader region.
Yıldız also strongly condemned the violent actions and spread of violence by Israelis seizing Palestinian lands in the occupied West Bank, stressing that a just and lasting peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through a two-state vision and a political solution based on pre-1967 borders.
THE DECISION CALLS FOR AN END TO ISRAEL'S OCCUPATION SINCE 1967
The adopted resolution reaffirms the UN's responsibility regarding the Palestinian issue, calls for an end to Israel's occupation since 1967, and supports a two-state solution. The resolution demands the cessation of activities by Israelis seizing Palestinian lands and calls for Israel to comply with international law, as well as the renewal of negotiations and recognition of borders while increasing aid to Palestinians amid a serious humanitarian crisis.
The resolution expresses satisfaction with the peace agreement that came into effect in Gaza on October 10, emphasizing the rejection of any demographic or regional change attempts in the Gaza Strip and stating that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967.
It calls for Israel to withdraw from the Palestinian territories it has occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, and for the realization of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination and the right to establish an independent state. Although UN General Assembly resolutions are not binding, they are considered significant in reflecting global public opinion.
