Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center announced that as of this evening, temperatures will drop across the city, with heavy rain and locally strong thunderstorms expected. It also called for precautions against flooding and transportation disruptions.
According to the statement from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), it is expected that northern parts of Marmara, particularly Istanbul, will come under the influence of cool and rainy weather arriving from the Balkans.
IT WILL START AT 18:00 AND LAST UNTIL 23:00
From this evening, a sudden drop in air temperature is expected, with showers and locally heavy thunderstorms affecting the city. The rainfall is forecast to begin first around 18:00 in the western parts of Istanbul, especially Çatalca and Silivri, and then increase in intensity citywide after 23:00.
RAIN ALSO ON THURSDAY
The rainfall is expected to continue intermittently until 10:00 on Thursday, with precipitation amounts of 10 to 25 kilograms per square meter in some areas.
HEAVY RAINFALL
Due to the unstable atmosphere caused by the encounter of warm, humid air with cool air coming from the north, precipitation may be locally stronger than forecast, and lightning and thunder events may also occur during rainfall.
AKOM recommended that garbage and similar waste be collected, rainwater grates and sewer cleanings be carried out, standby teams be assigned outside working hours, and personnel be kept ready at critical points. It also warned relevant institutions and citizens to take precautions against possible negative situations such as flooding and transportation disruptions due to the expected rainfall.
