Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) leader Ahmed al-Shara made striking statements regarding developments in Syria, the constitutional order, and future elections.

"THE CONDUCT OF ELECTIONS MAY TAKE ABOUT 4 YEARS"

For the first time speaking about a possible election to be held after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, al-Shara stated that the conduct of elections may take about 4 years.

"PREPARING A NEW CONSTITUTION MAY TAKE 3 YEARS"

Stating that the salvation of Syria would provide "stability in the region for 50 years," al-Shara emphasized that power-sharing could undermine the transitional phase in the country and noted that preparing and drafting a new constitution in the country may take about 3 years.

"WE WILL ANNOUNCE THE DISSOLUTION OF HTS"

Al-Shara also expressed that they would announce the dissolution of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham at the National Dialogue Conference, emphasizing that the new administration would govern the country "with a state mentality" and that "Syria will not be a source of disturbance to anyone."

"WE WILL NOT ALLOW SYRIA TO BE A BASE FOR PKK/YPG ATTACKS"

Additionally, al-Shara reported that the current administration is in talks with the PKK/YPG, which uses the name SDF, to resolve the crisis in northeastern Syria, stating, "Kurds are an inseparable part of Syria." The HTS leader added that "Kurdish forces will be integrated into the army ranks." Al-Shara also emphasized that they would not allow Syria to become "a base for the terrorist organization PKK/YPG's attacks."

"THERE ARE STRATEGIC INTERESTS WITH RUSSIA"

Ahmed al-Shara noted that despite Russia losing its ally in Damascus, which it has supported for years, the recent statements made by Russia regarding the new administration in Syria are quite positive. Al-Shara stated that Russia wants to leave the country "in a manner befitting its relationship with Syria" and noted that Moscow has strategic importance for Syria.
