INVESTIGATION

Within the coordination of the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, teams from the Izmir Provincial Gendarmerie Command conducted an investigation in May regarding Egeşehir Yapı Planlama Müşavirlik ve Teknoloji A.Ş., an affiliate of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, on charges of 'establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes', 'being a member of an organization', and 'bid rigging'.

Within the scope of the investigation, the commercial relationship of Süleyman Ekinci, the General Manager of Egeşehir Yapı, with a construction company alleged to have participated in various public tenders in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Region through a joint venture model was examined. According to the allegations, after the said company won the tenders for the Örnekköy 3rd and 4th Stage Cooperative projects, the construction supervision processes were carried out by Egeşehir Yapı, thus it was claimed that the same entity was influential in both the tender process and the supervision phase. It was learned that within the scope of the investigation, this situation was evaluated in terms of 'conflict of interest' and 'irregular supervision mechanism'.

4 SUSPECTS ARRESTED

Within the scope of the investigation, Süleyman Ekinci, the General Manager of Egeşehir Yapı Planlama Müşavirlik ve Teknoloji A.Ş., an affiliate of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, who was detained and referred to the courthouse in the 'bid rigging' operation carried out by the gendarmerie, Salih Eren, an official of a construction company, Muzafer Özpolat, also an official of a construction company, and Hüseyin Sezer, the former General Manager of İZBETON, were arrested and sent to prison.

LEGAL REPORT AGAINST VELİ AĞBABA

On the other hand, a legal report was prepared against New Party Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba on charges of 'receiving bribes in a chain manner'. The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had stated that the lifting of the politician's parliamentary immunity was requested.

In the legal report, allegations were included that Veli Ağbaba both obtained financial benefits from Muhittin Böcek and used his influence in the Çankaya Municipality to ensure the tender was awarded to the company he wanted, contrary to the tender specifications.
