In the Gaziemir district of Izmir, Hasan Başar, the 2016 Turkish champion of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), was subjected to an armed attack by 2 motorcyclists wearing helmets while sitting with a 13-year-old child in front of the sports hall he runs. Başar stated that one of the attackers asked, "Are you Doğan?" and said that even though he replied, "No, I am Hasan," they opened fire. Başar, who was injured in his leg, stated that he thinks the attack was carried out by mistake.
Hasan Başar, a 30-year-old who runs a gym in İzmir's Gaziemir district and became the 2016 Türkiye champion in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), was injured in an armed attack in front of his workplace.
The incident occurred on Çolak Molla Mümin Hoca Street in the Gaziemir district. Hasan Başar, married and father of one, was sitting in front of the gym he operates with a 13-year-old gym member when two people on a motorcycle approached them.
HE SAID "NO, I'M HASAN" BUT OPENED FIRE
According to Hasan Başar's account, one of the people arriving on the motorcycle asked him, "Are you Doğan?"
Başar replied to the attacker, "No, I'm Hasan." Despite this, the suspect fired 2 shots with a gun.
One of the bullets hit Başar's right leg. The 13-year-old child present during the attack escaped without injury.
After the armed attack, the two suspects, wearing helmets on a motorcycle, fled the scene.

The armed attack was recorded by the security camera of the gym operated by Hasan Başar.
Following the attack, Başar was taken by relatives by car to Gaziemir Nevvar Salih İşgören State Hospital.
After initial treatment there, Başar, transferred by ambulance to Dokuz Eylül University Hospital, completed his treatment and was later discharged.
Police teams launched efforts to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene on the motorcycle.
"WHO IS DOĞAN? WHAT'S THE ISSUE? I DON'T KNOW"
Describing the attack he experienced, Hasan Başar did not provide information on whether he had any prior connection to the attackers. He stated he thinks he was targeted as the wrong person due to the name asked.
In his statement after the attack, Başar said, "He asked 'Are you Doğan?' and shot my leg. My bone is also broken now. Who is Doğan? What's the issue? I don't know."
Başar, stating he was only sitting in front of his workplace before the attack, noted he planned to go home shortly after.
"I'M SURE HE SHOT BY MISTAKE"
Hasan Başar also expressed his belief that the attack was not a planned act directed at him.
Başar said, "I was sitting in my shop, I was going to go home. I'm sure he shot by mistake. I told him I wasn't Doğan, but he still shot."
Despite Başar's words, the real reason for the attack is not yet known. Police teams continue their work to identify the suspects and uncover the cause of the incident.
During the attack, a 13-year-old child who is a gym member was also with Hasan Başar. In the incident where the suspect fired two shots, one bullet hit Başar's leg, while the child sustained no injuries.
