WHAT HAD HAPPENED

The Ministry of Interior had appointed trustees to some municipalities under the administration of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party). Along with the trustees appointed to Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, Batman Municipality, and Şanlıurfa's Halfeti Municipality, the mayors were removed from their positions. Mardin Governor Tuncay Akkoyun was appointed as a trustee to Mardin Metropolitan Municipality. Ahmet Türk stated regarding the trustee decision that this process meant putting a mortgage on the will of the people. Türk said, "We see that the policy of intimidation continues. We have fought for a dignified peace and the establishment of a democratic republic in this country until today. However, we see that a pressure policy is being carried out to mortgage the will of the people and to intimidate Kurdish politics."
