In Bitlis, where the winter season is harsh, a total snowfall of 4 meters and 26 centimeters occurred between October 1, 2025, and January 20, 2026. The height of the snow cover varied in different parts of the city, occasionally covering single-story houses, vehicles, traffic lights and signs, as well as bus stops.
In Bitlis, one of the cities in Turkey that receives the most snow, the ongoing snow, blizzard, and cold weather are negatively affecting daily life.
HOUSES AND VEHICLES COVERED IN SNOW
According to meteorological data, the snowfall reached a total thickness of 4 meters and 26 centimeters during the period from October 1, 2025, to January 20, 2026. In the city, single-story houses, vehicles, traffic lights and signs, as well as bus stops, were covered in snow.
In Bitlis, where drivers and citizens are experiencing difficult moments due to the snow, snow piles have formed in some areas. The municipality, along with the Highway and Special Administration teams, is continuing snow removal efforts in their responsibility areas to ensure that transportation is not disrupted and citizens do not suffer.
"OUR CITIZENS CANNOT LEAVE THEIR HOMES"
Bitlis Mayor Nesrullah Tanğlay stated that the winter season in the city is harsh and that they are trying to serve with 80 personnel and 56 vehicles. Thanking the teams who are working selflessly in snow removal, Tanğlay noted:
"Especially our single-story houses are buried in snow. There are citizens who cannot find their vehicles. Our municipalities are continuing their support in this regard. Our citizens cannot leave their homes. Our teams are also making efforts to clear the stairs and paths. As you know, there have been two avalanche incidents in Bitlis. As a municipality, we acted in coordination with the Governorship and AFAD, and thankfully there were no casualties. The heavy snowfall is affecting our work, but we will continue to serve our people without getting tired."
