Members of the Genel-İş Union's branches 1, 2, 3, and 9 gathered in front of the Metropolitan Municipality service building at the Kültürpark Fair Area. Workers who lit torches, chanted various slogans, and danced later unfurled a banner reading "There is a strike at this workplace." The branch presidents of the unions and the workers hung the banner on the metropolitan municipality building.

Ercan Gül, the President of the Genel-İş İzmir Branch 2, stated in his speech that approximately 23,000 workers began the strike as of midnight. Gül emphasized that they would fight shoulder to shoulder, saying, "We came not to create unrest but to increase our bread. Everyone will be reasonable and support this struggle. We will not allow anyone to harm this place. We will continue our struggle until we increase this bread."
METERS OF QUEUES FORMED AT BUS STOPS
Serap Yılmaz, the President of the Genel-İş İzmir Branch 3, stated that they would continue the resistance until the workers received the wages they deserved. Meanwhile, with 23,000 workers going on strike, congestion occurred throughout the city. Citizens who set out in the morning to go to work formed queues of meters at bus stops.
