Cemil Keleşoğlu Anadolu High School, located in the Karatay district of Konya, has made a highly controversial decision. As part of the "Public Savings Measures," the use of water dispensers has been added to the ban on tea and coffee machines in the teachers' lounge. BAN ON WATER DISPENSERS IN THE HIGH SCHOOLAccording to a report by Sözcü; the decision was communicated to the teachers with the signature of the school principal, Özgür Devrim Fidan. The statement included, "I kindly request your attention and compliance regarding the prohibition of using any electrical devices such as water heaters, coffee machines, and water dispensers outside the canteen in our school, as per the General Circular on Public Savings Measures." "THE ISSUE HAS REACHED ANOTHER DIMENSION"Bahattin Ertuğrul, the President of Eğitim-İş Konya Branch, reacted to the decision banning water for teachers and called on the authorities to abandon this wrong decision. Ertuğrul stated that they were astonished by the decision, saying, "We had heard about the efforts to remove tea and coffee machines from teachers' lounges in schools as part of the Savings Measures Circular published in May. However, today the issue has reached another dimension." "IS A GLASS OF WATER FOR TEACHERS HARMING THE COUNTRY?"Recalling the decision communicated to the teachers, Ertuğrul said, "Is a glass of water that teachers drink after class harming the country? Will the country develop if those teachers do not drink a glass of water? We are curious about the answer to this. Furthermore, the principal's attitude towards the teachers is also not correct. I call on all authorities to stop this mistake." As part of the "Public Savings Measures" published on May 13, 2024, the purchase of buildings and vehicles in the public sector was halted for three years, the use of foreign-made vehicles was terminated, and restrictions were placed on public personnel recruitment. Additionally, the use of tea and coffee machines in teachers' lounges in schools was also banned. However, following the reactions, some district national education directorates lifted the ban and allowed teachers to use the machines.
