The IBAN number used for money transfer transactions will no longer be sufficient on its own. According to new regulations, money transfers will undergo a second security step with SMS verification.
A new application has been launched that closely concerns everyone who makes money transfers in banks. The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) has implemented a new measure against fraud cases, which now prevents money from being sent by only entering the IBAN.
IBAN ALONE IS NO LONGER SUFFICIENT
With the new system, entering the IBAN information will no longer be sufficient for money transfers. A second verification step with an SMS code sent to the registered mobile phone will be mandatory for each transaction.
SMS CONFIRMATION BECOMES MANDATORY
According to a report by Yeni Şafak; starting from March 1, the system, which will be implemented in some banks, will require SMS confirmation before each money transfer. This step aims to prevent transactions from being made without the user's consent.
A SHIELD AGAINST FRAUD CASES
This measure taken against digital attacks such as phishing, fake applications, and account takeover creates a new layer of security that will enhance user safety. Especially the recent increase in complaints highlights the necessity of this system.
ALL BANKS WILL TRANSITION GRADUALLY
The system is currently active only in some banks. However, according to the schedule set by the BDDK, other banks will also complete the necessary infrastructure work and transition to the SMS verification system.
CRITICAL SECURITY WARNINGS FOR USERS
BDDK advises users to use strong passwords, not to share SMS verification codes with third parties, and to access mobile banking only through secure devices. Outdated application versions also pose risks.
