In the fire in Pendik, three children lost their lives, while details of the family's criminal record came to light. It was reported that the father, who was not at home during the fire, had 41 criminal records and was in custody due to being wanted, while the mother had more than 10 criminal records.
A fire that broke out in Pendik, Istanbul, turned a house with four children inside into a ball of flames. The fire started around 02:15 on the ground floor of a two-story building in Fevzi Çakmak Neighborhood and was extinguished by firefighters shortly after being reported by nearby residents.
3 CHILDREN LOST THEIR LIVES, 1 CHILD SERIOUSLY INJURED
Özden Sepetçi (2), Cennet Çelikkol (9), and Zülfikar Sepetçi (5) were pronounced dead despite all medical interventions. Muhammet Ali Çelikkol (11) was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
MOTHER WAS AT THE HOSPITAL, FATHER IN CUSTODY
It was learned that mother Selvi Sepetçi was not at home during the fire, as she had taken her youngest daughter Ela Nur to the hospital. The father was taken into custody in the morning due to having 41 criminal records and an outstanding warrant. It was also reported that the mother had more than 10 criminal records. When Selvi Sepetçi learned about the fire, she reportedly called her neighbors and said, "Save my children." She was released after giving her statement.
"WE BROKE THE WINDOW AND CARRIED 4 CHILDREN OUT"
One of the neighbors, Raşit Yoldaş, was among those who rescued the children from the flames: "We broke the window and carried 4 children outside. The flames were hitting our faces inside. Two children were not breathing at all. They had just moved in."
DETAILS ABOUT THE FAMILY WITH A CRIMINAL RECORD
While police investigations are ongoing, it was revealed that the family had moved into this house about 2 months ago. The father's numerous criminal records and his custody indicate that no adult was present in the house at the time of the fire. Pendik District Governor Mehmet Yıldız and Mayor Ahmet Cin conducted investigations at the scene.
