The court acquitted singer Gülben Ergen in a case where she was prosecuted for "insult" due to quoting a social media post related to the murder of baby Sıla, who lost her life as a result of abuse and assault. Ergen argued that her post did not have the intent to insult and stated that she would continue to fight for children.

Gülben Ergen, who was sued for quoting a post related to the murder of baby Sıla, was acquitted in the hearing held today.

The first hearing of the case in which singer Gülben Ergen was prosecuted for 'Insult' due to quoting a social media post containing insults related to the murder of baby Sıla was held. The instruction hearing at the 45th Criminal Court of First Instance in Istanbul was attended by the defendant Gülben Ergen and her lawyer.

"I HAD NO INTENT TO COMMIT A CRIME"

Singer Gülben Ergen stated, "I will not use the words you read in the indictment. However, I quoted the tweet in question without any intent to commit a crime. I have been involved in a total of 59 kindergarten projects together with the Ministry of National Education. Additionally, I am the founder and president of the 'Children Should Smile' Association. I have done my best to meet with the families in both the Sıla Baby case and the cases of Rojin Kabaiş, Narin Güran, and Ahmet Minguzzi. Alongside my identity as an artist, I also act as an activist, especially in crimes committed against children. I do not know a person named Ümit Ali Yeniçeri. I quoted the tweet without any intent to insult, feeling sorrow over the burial of baby Sıla at the age of two and a half. I do not accept the charges against me. I am also sorry for occupying both you and the courthouse with such a case. As long as I live, I will continue my struggle against crimes committed against children. I tweeted due to my sensitivity in this case, just like in the cases of Sıla Baby, Rojin, and Ahmet Minguzzi. However, I did not insult anyone personally. I quoted the tweet containing elements of insult and wrote my own comment. There are lessons I will take from this process. One of them is that I should not even quote a tweet containing insults. I do not accept the accusations against me," she said.

ACQUITTAL DECIDED

The court decided to acquit the defendant Gülben Ergen on the grounds that the post she made was not of an insulting nature and that the legal elements of the alleged crime were not fulfilled.

"I WILL ALWAYS CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR CHILDREN"

After the hearing, Gülben Ergen made a statement in front of the courthouse, saying, "I will always continue to fight for children; my struggle will never end. Thank you."

THE REASON FOR THE CASE WAS THAT POST

Gülben Ergen had shared, "How could the creatures in human form harm Sıla? The baby is that baby," for 2-year-old baby Sıla, who was found to have been subjected to violence and sexual abuse in the Malkara district of Tekirdağ and died in the hospital where she was treated.
