Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ahmet Gümen stated that they will release more than 1 million samurai wasps across Turkey as part of the fight against the brown marmorated stink bug, adding that 245,000 samurai wasps will be released into nature in Ordu this year.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ahmet Gümen, who is in Ordu to attend various programs, participated in the samurai wasp release program organized in the Kökenli neighborhood of the Altınordu district as part of the fight against the brown marmorated stink bug, following the sector meetings held in the Ordu Governor's meeting room.
MORE THAN 11 MILLION SAMURAI WASPS WILL BE RELEASED AGAINST THE BROWN MARMORATED STINK BUG
Deputy Minister Gümen made a statement to the press regarding the release of samurai wasps under the 'Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Action Plan' implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Gümen said, "Today, we came together for the release of the samurai wasp, which we use in biological control against the brown marmorated stink bug in Ordu. Last year, we released 207,000 samurai wasps across Turkey. This year, we will release 245,000 only in Ordu. In total, we will release more than 1 million samurai wasps across Turkey. Biological control is a significant step for us. We also have traps for biotechnical control, of which only 15,000 have been distributed by our provincial directorate. We will continue our fight against the brown marmorated stink bug through mechanical control, biological control, biotechnical control, and chemical control," he said.
"THEY ARE PRODUCED IN OUR OWN INSTITUTES"
Gümen stated that the samurai wasps are produced in the ministry's institutes, saying, "We had announced our action plan, and in accordance with this, we are continuing our fight together with our esteemed governor and our metropolitan mayor. They do not withhold their support from us. We will release the samurai wasps we use in this biological control from our two institutes in the region into nature. We produce these in our own institutes. We believe that this fight will be quite effective," he said.
After the statements, approximately 3,000 samurai wasps were released into nature as part of the fight against the stink bug, with the participation of Ordu Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Kemal Yılmaz, protocol members, and citizens.
