Eleven individuals were detained at Istanbul Yedikule Chest Diseases Hospital for allegedly taking money under the guise of "donations" from patients' relatives to expedite procedures. It was determined that the suspects, including doctors, had received a total of 10 million lira from approximately 50 people. The operation was carried out simultaneously in Istanbul, Mersin, and Tekirdağ.
In the investigation conducted against the doctors working at Yedikule Chest Diseases and Chest Surgery Training and Research Hospital, 11 people, including doctors, were detained for taking money from patients' relatives under the name of 'donation' or 'medical supplies' to expedite procedures. It was learned that the suspects received 10 million lira from 50 people.
TEAMS ACTED UPON THE TIP-OFF
About 50 people in Istanbul went to the Provincial Health Directorate and reported that bribes were being requested at Yedikule Chest Diseases Hospital, and that the surgery dates were being expedited. Following the tip-off, the teams of the Provincial Health Directorate informed the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The prosecutor's office launched an investigation regarding the matter. As part of the investigation, the Financial Crimes Investigation Department of the Istanbul Police initiated a study.
THEY SPEED UP PROCESSES BY PAYING MONEY
In the conducted studies, it was determined that some individuals, including doctors, at the hospital were requesting bribes from patients under the name of 'donation' or 'medical supplies', and that those who deposited money had their surgeries moved forward, and biopsy procedures and pathology processes were expedited. Additionally, it was found that some suspects directed certain patients to private laboratories and that these payments were transferred to the relatives' accounts.
10 MILLION LIRA WAS RECEIVED
As a result of a 5-month physical and technical surveillance conducted against the suspects, who were determined to have caused a loss of 10 million lira to approximately 50 people, an operation was carried out. In simultaneous operations conducted in Istanbul, Mersin, and Tekirdağ, 11 suspects, including 1 professor, 1 associate professor, and 3 doctors, were detained. The suspects were taken to the police for processing.
